Michael Fennelly is a highly respected leader whose career bridges elite sport, management, and academia. A central figure in the Kilkenny senior hurling team during their golden era, he won eight All-Ireland medals at inter-county level and five club All-Ireland titles with Ballyhale Shamrocks.
His leadership extended beyond the pitch during a three-year tenure as senior inter-county manager with Offaly, all while pursuing a Doctorate in Education, specialising in leadership from a sporting perspective. Michaels doctorate explored the first year of a novice manager at inter-county level in the GAA from a multiple stakeholder perspective. In 2023, he was appointed Kilkenny GAA Performance Lead, developing a comprehensive multi-disciplinary performance framework to support player and team success.
Alongside his sporting career, Michael has been a lecturer in sport science at the Technological University of the Shannon since 2014, refining his ability to engage diverse audiences and deliver content with clarity and impact. Drawing on his unique combination of elite playing experience, management roles, high-performance expertise, and advanced academic research, Michael offers keynotes and workshops that inspire, motivate, and equip audiences with practical tools for leadership, resilience, and sustained success.
