Jim Warny is an elite cave diver, explorer, and real-life hero best known for his role in the extraordinary 2018 Thai cave rescue that captured the world’s attention. With over two decades of experience navigating some of the most challenging and remote cave systems on Earth, Jim is a master of operating under pressure—where failure is not an option.
Based in Ireland, Jim has been immersed in cave exploration since his teenage years, developing a unique skill set in technical diving and risk assessment in extreme environments. He has undertaken numerous international expeditions and holds the record for the longest water-filled cave traverse in Ireland.
In July 2018, Jim was part of the core international rescue team that saved a boys’ soccer team trapped 4km deep in the flooded Tham Luang cave system in Thailand. He was personally responsible for extracting the team’s coach through the complex and hazardous underwater system. For his bravery and skill, Jim was awarded the Knighthood of the Order of Léopold by the King of Belgium, among other international honours.
Jim’s story has since inspired a global audience through keynote speeches and film adaptations, including his involvement in the Hollywood feature film “Thirteen Lives.” He now shares insights on leadership under pressure, teamwork in life-or-death situations, and the mental resilience required to succeed in the unknown.
