Jason Black has forged a life defined by extraordinary physical and mental challenges, transforming personal hardship into remarkable triumphs. Born in Donegal, his early love for the outdoors was nurtured through scouting and the rugged beauty of Ireland’s landscapes. Despite struggles in school and enduring bullying, sport became Jason’s anchor, fostering resilience and a fierce determination to excel.
Over two decades, he competed internationally in judo and spent another twenty years immersed in competitive cycling, participating in national races like the FBD Milk Rás and grueling ultra-endurance events across Europe, the US, and the Middle East. Yet it was in mountaineering where Jason found his ultimate calling.
Training rigorously around the world, he prepared for formidable peaks, summiting Everest via the challenging North Face route in 2013. In 2018, he etched his name in history as the first person from the Republic of Ireland to summit and survive K2, considered the toughest mountain on Earth – a feat achieved by fewer than 350 climbers worldwide.
Beyond his personal achievements, Jason channels his experiences into powerful keynote speeches and workshops, inspiring audiences across Ireland and internationally. His message emphasizes overcoming adversity, mental resilience, and the courage to pursue dreams against all odds. A passionate advocate for mental health, Jason dedicates significant time to sharing his story to uplift others, having spoken at numerous conferences and donated proceeds from his events to youth mental health services. Honoured as Donegal Person of the Year in 2018 and an Irish Red Cross ambassador, Jason remains a true embodiment of endurance, humility, and the belief that no summit – literal or metaphorical – is ever out of reach.
