Donna Traynor is one of Ireland’s most recognised and respected public figures, with a broadcasting career spanning more than three decades.
After starting as a journalist and presenter with RTÉ in Dublin, Donna moved to BBC Northern Ireland and is best known as the anchor of its award-winning television programme, BBC Newsline. Donna is also remembered as the first person to publicly announce the 1994 IRA ceasefire in a BBC Radio Ulster newsflash.
As a TV anchor, Donna fronted live coverage of some of the biggest landmark events in our political and societal history. These included the funeral of football legend George Best, the Titanic centenary commemoration, the state visit to Ireland of Queen Elizabeth II, the Easter Rising centenary in Dublin, and The Open Golf Championship at Royal Portrush.
Donna also reached a global audience with her cameo roles in the hugely successful Channel 4/Netflix series “Derry Girls”. She has presented education, rural affairs, and entertainment television programmes, including BBC Children In Need, where she revealed her singing talent. With her approachable personality, versatility, and reliability, Donna is a popular choice to host conferences and award ceremonies for the public, voluntary, and private sectors.
Donna’s extensive current affairs knowledge and live presentation experience gives her a unique range of skills as a conference facilitator, awards presenter, and panel interviewer in the corporate world. She has the ability to remain calm under pressure, quickly disseminate information, conduct incisive interviews, and engage with the audience.
Donna’s personal story of resilience is one she likes to share. Not only did she work in the pressurised world of broadcasting for many years, but she also had to navigate a highly publicised, major change in her professional circumstances. She is keen to share her perspective on making difficult decisions and managing transitions to assist others. Donna is a highly sought-after host, interviewer, and panelist.
