Warren Gatland is a renowned rugby coach, celebrated for his exceptional leadership and strategic acumen. Born in Hamilton, New Zealand, Gatland’s coaching career has spanned several top-tier teams and international successes.
Gatland began his international coaching career with the Ireland national team from 1998 to 2001, where he laid the groundwork for future success and helped develop the team’s competitive edge. He then moved to London Wasps from 2002 to 2005, leading the team to three English Premiership titles and a Heineken Cup victory, establishing himself as a top coach in European rugby.
Returning to New Zealand, Gatland coached his home province of Waikato from 2005 to 2007, achieving notable success in the National Provincial Championship. His most transformative role came with the Wales national team, where he served from 2007 to 2019. Under his leadership, Wales won four Six Nations titles, including three Grand Slams, and reached the Rugby World Cup semi-finals twice.
Gatland also coached the British and Irish Lions on multiple tours in 2009, 2013, 2017, and 2021. He achieved a series win in Australia in 2013, a drawn series in New Zealand in 2017, and led the 2021 tour to South Africa. Currently, Gatland is coaching the Chiefs in Super Rugby, bringing his wealth of experience back to New Zealand rugby.
