Daragh Fleming
Writer Poet & Mental Health Advocate
Daragh Fleming is a writer, poet, and mental health advocate. He uses creativity and personal experiences to normalise conversations around mental health, inspiring others to open up and build practical mental health routines.
Daragh Fleming is a writer, poet, and mental health advocate who is dedicated to reshaping the way we talk about mental health. His journey into advocacy began during his studies for a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology, where he recognised the need for more honest, accessible conversations about mental well-being. This led him to create Thoughts Too Big, a blog that quickly gained attention for its raw and relatable content. The blog became a platform for Daragh to explore mental health topics in an authentic way, making it easier for readers to connect with their own experiences.
While pursuing a Master’s in Linguistics, Daragh began delving deeper into his literary work, which now includes four published books: two poetry pamphlets, a collection of short stories, and a collection of essays on mental health titled Lonely Boy. His writing is characterised by its candidness and emotional depth, offering a unique blend of personal reflection and broader commentary on the societal aspects of mental health.
Daragh’s mission is to make mental health a normal and accepted part of everyday conversation. He speaks openly about his own mental health challenges, using his story to show others that struggling with mental health does not diminish their value. He believes that being open and honest about these experiences helps to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, and encourages others to seek the support they need.
In addition to his literary work, Daragh is a sought-after public speaker. He began speaking in 2019 and has since delivered impactful talks at various events, including the Movember launch in Ireland. His talks often focus on the power of personal storytelling, showing how sharing our experiences can foster connection and healing. He also speaks about the importance of building a mental health routine, a practice he promotes as a way to support overall well-being in a manageable, sustainable way.
Daragh is also available for literary events, where he participates in panel discussions, workshops, interviews, and readings. His writing has been widely published in outlets such as The Irish Times, Gutter Magazine, and The Ogham Stone, and he continues to be an influential voice in both the literary and mental health communities.
