Biography

Gary Allen is a behaviour change coach and speaker whose work centres on two connected themes: changing your relationship with alcohol and reinventing your life in midlife.
His approach is compassionate, practical, and rooted in possibility. He invites people to explore what they want from their lives, understand the habits that may be getting in the way, and begin making changes they can sustain.

Gary’s own turning point came in 2018, when he committed to a 100-day alcohol-free experiment. As he experienced greater clarity and energy, he explored a longstanding interest in human potential and began training as a coach. Coaching became an increasingly important part of his life, and in 2023 he left his IT career to pursue it full-time.

Today, Gary brings around 5,000 hours of coaching experience alongside more than 25 years in the technology industry. He holds a Master Diploma in Coaching, the International Coaching Federation’s Professional Certified Coach (PCC) credential, and EMCC Senior Practitioner accreditation.

Born with a disability and a lifelong wheelchair user, Gary brings a lifelong perspective on adaptation, patience and finding his own way forward. From 2019 to 2025, he served on the Disability Advisory Committee of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, contributing to its work on disability rights and monitoring Ireland’s implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

His alcohol sessions explore how change can move from a sense of restriction towards genuine personal choice. His midlife work, including the Second Act Blueprint programme, supports people who have built an established career or life but feel flat, stuck, or unsure what comes next.

Gary brings warmth, compassion and a down-to-earth style to his speaking, rooted in his core belief that judgement has no place in the process of change. He invites audiences to reflect on their own lives and explore what could be possible. Across both topics, he encourages small experiments, manageable risks and meaningful action. He wants people to leave feeling supported, with greater
belief in themselves and the understanding that an experiment that doesn’t work is information they can learn from.

Speaking Topics

Changing Your Relationship with Alcohol: From “I Shouldn’t” to “I Don’t Want To”
What could become possible if alcohol played a smaller role in your life?

Gary brings personal experience and coaching expertise to an open, judgement-free conversation about drinking. He explores the beliefs and habits that keep us returning to familiar patterns, the importance of support, and how finding something meaningful to move towards can change our motivation.

For audiences curious about reducing their drinking or exploring an alcohol-free life, this session offers space to reflect, question assumptions, and identify a practical next step. Gary’s approach centres on curiosity, choice, and rebuilding trust in yourself.

Midlife Reinvention: The Second Act Blueprint
You’ve built a career and a life. What would you like the next chapter to hold?
Drawing on his own change of direction in his mid-forties and his Second Act Blueprint programme, Gary supports audiences to reconnect with what matters, question outdated stories, protect their energy, and explore possibilities they may have dismissed.

This session encourages people to give themselves permission to experiment, take manageable risks, and build momentum through small actions. Audiences leave with questions worth exploring and a concrete step towards their next chapter, without needing to have the whole future figured out.
