The Coubertin Score – A New Scoring System for the Olympics

“The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not winning but taking part. The essential thing in life is not conquering but fighting well”

Front Row Speaker and Founder & CEO Diaspora Matters Kingsley Aikins and his son Grattan Aikins, are long time fans of the Olympic Games and have devised a different way of judging a country’s or individual’s performance in the Games.

The Olympics always have one criterion for success: Medals. The three best competitors get medals, Gold, Silver or Bronze and if you come fourth.., you have failed. A country’s success is defined by medals. This is despite the immense difficulty of not just getting to the Olympics, but getting to the point where you can say you are one of the top five fastest runners/swimmers etc...in the world.

Medals are important but they tend to be the only thing of importance that gets attributed to Olympic performances . Now Kingsley & Grattan assess a country’s and an athlete’s participation in the Olympics in a different way here
