Clare hurling great Ger Loughnane thinks Gary Keegan may have given Cork a new edge.

The Rebels put in a stunning performance to beat reigning All-Ireland champions Tipperary in a stunning Munster Championship opener in Thurles on Sunday.

Two time All-Ireland winning manager Loughnane feels there are signs that Keegan, who was brought in by manager Kieran Kingston as a high performance consultant, has made a difference.

"Kieran Kingston and his management team deserve huge credit for masterminding this performance,'' wrote Loughnane in his column in the Irish Daily Star.

"Remember, 10 players who surrendered terribly in many games in recent years were on the field for Cork.

"So what was the difference? Maybe it's down to the influence of high performance expert, Gary Keegan.

"He transformed Irish boxing and then made a big impact as Director of the Institute of Sport.

"Kingston made a very smart call in bringing Keegan on board with Cork.

"If it was Keegan or someone else who changed the mentality of this Cork team, we don't know.

"But it was a massive factor, because this wasn't the Cork of recent years."
